Product Description
That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown! "Christmastime is here. Happiness and cheer." And for Peanuts fans everywhere, it just wouldn't be Christmas without this classic holiday delight. Christmas lights may be twinkling red and green, but Charlie Brown has the Yuletide blues. To get in the holiday spirit, he takes Lucy's advice and directs the Christmas play. And what's a Christmas play without a Christmas tree? But everyone makes fun of the short, spindly "nevergreen" Charlie Brown brings back - until the real meaning of Christmas works its magic once again in this Remastered Deluxe Edition with Improved Picture and Audio. Happy Holidays.

This half-hour Christmas show is one of the truly lovable animated specials in TV history, a status proved by its annual network telecast since 1965. A Charlie Brown Christmas was the first, and best, of a series of programs based on the Charles M. Schulz cartoon strip "Peanuts." Hapless hero Charlie Brown finds himself depressed at Christmastime, searching for the true meaning of the holiday amidst the glitz and commercialism of the modern age. Appointed director of the school holiday pageant, Charlie Brown ventures out with Linus to buy "a great, big, shiny aluminum Christmas tree." Instead they bring back a miserable tree--a real one. A Charlie Brown Christmas shows off the "Peanuts" gang doing what they do best: Lucy is bossy, Snoopy is crazy, Linus is sweet, and Pig Pen is, well, filthy. Instead of using adult actors trying to sound like kids, the production features real children providing the voices, an endearing effect. The jazz music score, composed by Vince Guaraldi, has become a classic in its own right; like so much about this program, it's an unexpected but perfectly right choice. --Robert Horton

5 out of 5 stars An all time favorite.   January 6, 2009
I was so excited that Amazon had this series on Charlie Brown.
I have been a Charlie Brown fan for many years.
The quality of these tapes were excellent, and my grandchildren will enjoy Charlie Brown as much as I do.

5 out of 5 stars A classic   January 6, 2009
A delightful classic, beautifully restored. The bonus "making of" video is also well worth watching.

4 out of 5 stars Improved picture & packaging - What about the sound?   December 25, 2008

A lifelong fan of this Christmas special, I give the content 5 stars, as usual. And this new issue is a delight to own. The package is gorgeous with its sparkly sleeve. The remastered picture is cleaner than the previous issue on DVD. The sound, however, has some trouble. For one, the synch is noticeably off. Watching, I thought something wasn't quite right. It wasn't until Schroeder and Lucy's Jingle Bells scene that I was sure there was a problem. I even dug up my old VHS copy to verify. When an annoyed Schroeder plays the toy-piano version of Jingle Bells, the old copies have a perfectly synched presentation, with each movement of his hand resulting in one note, dead on. The new version's synch is off to an alarming and annoying degree. Also, I was more impressed with the audio quality on the VHS copy. In short, the best part of this new issue is the packaging. If you want one copy for watching, go with the older issue. If you are a collector, get this one for the package and keep the older version for viewing.

5 out of 5 stars "That's What Christmas Is All About Charlie Brown"   December 23, 2008

I was in the eighth grade back in 1965 when 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' special debuted on network television and captured the hearts of American viewers in unprecedented fashion. It became an instant Christmas classic which has stood the test of time and is as popular today as it ever was. It's kind of an amazing accomplishment for a cartoon, especially when you consider how much our culture has changed since the naive sixties. There's something special about the childhood innocence and purity of spirit instilled in this production that touches everyone in a meaningful way. It just doesn't get any better than this.

A must see classic for all ages. Watching Charlie Brown has become a family tradition for our family. The new remastered deluxe edition is very clear and includes a second short Charlie Brown Christmas story that is O.K. but not as good as the original.
