Amazon.com For those who never thought Disney would release a film in which Santa Claus is kidnapped and tortured, well, here it is! The full title is Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, which should give you an idea of the tone of this stop-action animated musical/fantasy/horror/comedy. It is based on characters created by Burton, the former Disney animator best known as the director of Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and the first two Batman movies. His benignly scary-funny sensibility dominates the story of Halloweentown resident Jack Skellington (voice by Danny Elfman, who also wrote the songs), who stumbles on a bizarre and fascinating alternative universe called ... Christmastown! Directed by Henry Selick (who later made the delightful James and the Giant Peach), this PG-rated picture has a reassuringly light touch. As Roger Ebert noted in his review, "some of the Halloween creatures might be a tad scary for smaller children, but this is the kind of movie older kids will eat up; it has the kind of offbeat, subversive energy that tells them wonderful things are likely to happen." --Jim Emerson

Amazon needs to learn how to handle with care January 7, 2009 Next time I bye anything from you guys I hope it isn't damaged liked the Nightmare Before Christmas DVD I received. There was a crack at the bottom of the case and the swinging DVD holder was broken on the inside. It looks as though it was tossed around. The movie was a Christmas gift for my girlfriend and luckily I ordered the same item twice otherwise she would have been the one that received it instead of me.
Really Awful January 5, 2009 Our family has loved Burton's other movies, and appreciate his quirky sensibility, but we found this one unwatchable. We literally stopped it halfway. The whole thing is sung, in the style of a generic Broadway musical. Neither the world of holiday towns, nor the story, engaged us at all.
great movie January 4, 2009 I loved this movie and when i was in Guam you couldn't find it anywhere but amazon delivered it made my christmas.
Happy with my order January 3, 2009 I ordered this as a Christmas gift from this seller. Thank you! He wanted it so bad so I was very happy to get it. We even went on the ride at Disneyland & it showed it on the DVD! Very much so worth getting.. Doesn't have the puffy cover which I thought it did, but still.. Get it, this movie is wonderful!
Ok movie, BAD digital copy December 23, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The digital copy has so many restrictions on the installation that it makes it less than worthless. I say less than worthless because you have to install Disney junk on your computer before you can do the ONE installation that the disc allows. Don't fall for this rip off. Get the version that has no digital copy and use a DVD ripper to make your own.
